Jonas Siegel is the Associate Director of the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM). 

Siegel has led several research initiatives related to the center’s Nuclear Past, Present, and Future program, including a project to identify ways to strengthen global nuclear governance system, to analyze the impact of global nuclear energy development on the potential for nuclear weapons proliferation, to understand the impact of nuclear materials transparency on security and proliferation, to develop minimum requirements for a comprehensive global nuclear material accounting system, and to investigate media coverage of Iran’s nuclear program and the international response to it. He also helped to launch CISSM’s research into the relationship between moral and strategic approaches to global security policy challenges.

Siegel also leads CISSM’s efforts to reach out to policy makers, expert communities, and the public and to engage them in discussion about the center’s research interests and other relevant security policy questions.

Prior to joining CISSM, Siegel was the editor of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. He earned his M.S. in journalism from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and is completing his PhD in policy studies at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.
